No Macros--APPALLING!, 2008-05-11 This is a significant upgrade to prior versions of Office for Mac for several reasons. 1) It's significantly faster, 2) the interface is cleaner, and 3) IT DOESN'T SUPPORT VISUAL BASIC!!!
If you don't use macros, I recommend this product without hesitation. If you do use Macros, avoid this product like the plague. I don't know if Microsoft intends to support Macros at a later date, but it's pretty appalling to leave them out of Excel, given macro usage is very common when dealing with large data sets.
It's not the same as 2007 for windows, but..., 2008-05-11 It's not the same but it works well. I must say that they need to improve a lot. It's not as practical as M. Office 2007 for windows, but what else can you get for your mac? in my case, I need office, so I just hope that microsoft will improve this!
Prefer Older Version, 2008-05-10 I was fairly satisfied with MS Office 2004 for Mac. At least I knew its foibles. Made the assumption (silly me) that MS would address some of its failings and bring us a better product. I do not believe that this is true. There are specifically Clip Art problems which never existed before but do now and make using and especially adding to old Clip Art essentially futile. The Clip Art program crashes. Thus far, MS has not fixed this problem and I have sent them record of the crashes repeatedly.
I also have reverted to saving all of my files at "compatible with the older version" because it is a hassle trying to share files with others on PCs or at other levels. I would not advise purchase of this package until MS sees fit to make at least another update available and fix a lot of their problems which they introduced!

Microsoft Office for Macs...hmmmm., 2008-05-09 I'm a new Mac convert, and I just purchased a beautiful new macbook pro. I LOVE everything that microsoft office does and did for my old PC, and I'm a student, so I knew that this was a necessary purchase. I was thrilled by Microsoft Office 2007 for PCs (it's really fabulous), and I was sure that they'd come out with something even more stellar for macs (seeing as everything Mac seems to be newer, flashier, easier, and more versatile for computer-simpletons like me).
Alas, it was not to be. Mac Office 2008 is really a pain in the neck to use. The menus are a pain to access, everything is hard to find, there are tons of windows everywhere, and it's hard to transition between PC microsoft office and mac microsoft office, which is most annoying to me. On the other hand, Microsoft entourage is GREAT. If you need an incredibly annoying/helpful electronic planning system, entourage has it all - it has a great reminder system, it has a wonderful to-do list, and it's just all-around great & well made. However, I'd still recommend thinking twice, and maybe even three times before purchasing this. Maybe try it out on someone else's computer, or in a store. It seems like one of those necessary evils, and while I have heard that it's better than whatever alternative mac puts out, it's more expensive, and office for mac is just not as good as office for PCs.
I would not advise that you jump to buy this.
good product, 2008-05-09 A good product overall. Changes to Excel can be overcome with a bit of hardwork and diligence. Likewise for the format woes (ie .doc vs .docx). Sooner than later everyone will be using the .docx format so might as well switch now. Currently the software has backwards compatibility for saving to the older document formats if that is a worry. Power Point is wondrously improved.
