 Terrific and awe inspiring, 2008-08-25
My husband,though not being a movie fan, got up each morning anticipating the next segment. We were awed by what our founding fathers endured in order to make life so good for us. Soon afterwards, we saw another movie about someone who had never voted and he was incensed that anyone would have the gall to ignore that for which others had given so much and some had given their lives. Should be required viewing in history and government classes!

This product is now one week overdue. I have e-mailed Amazon amd the vendor twice but no answer. If the DVD does not turn up today, I will dispute the amount with the credit company
John Adams Miniseries, 2008-08-25
I thoroughly enjoyed this mini series as well as the film making details following the segments. The film was very carefully done to be true to the times and the facts. It followed David McCollough's book accurately and avoided Hollywood temptations in film making. The film, like the book, succeeeded in bringing alive the real history of the foundation of our country and the incredible coming togerther of brilliant, dedicated minds that made it happen. It gives one a deep sense of pride and renewed motivation to protect the freedoms these fine 'real' people earned at great cost to themselves, for future generations.
Liberty Will Reign in America!, 2008-08-23
Excellent HBO television mini-series version of the book John Adams. An intriguing and entertaining view of John Adams, showing all of his qualities, his brilliance, his stubborness, his vanity, his pride, his devotion to first the idea anf later the country of America. A must have for lovers of history.

A very enjoyable and well acted mini series- a good companion to the book on which it is based. Yet I found that watching the film was like "skimming the surface" of this colorful life that David McCullough brought out so powerfully in his biography.
This is a case of a story so well done in print as to bring out the amazing character of someone like Adams at such a pivotal time in our history, that the film -inspite of the memorable potrayals- comes off more two dimentional than the book.
In the end though- I felt as if I were having a chance to revisit an old friend. Anyone who is not touched emotionally by the scenes at the end of this film (American or not) should perhaps check their sense of wonder.
