Losing Confidence In Turbotax Accuracy, 2008-02-08 After my experience doing taxes list year, I have lost a lot of confidence in Turbotax. I initially attempted to do my taxes a couple of weeks ago. One big thing I had to enter this year was the sale of a mutual fund accumulated in many small lots. It was impossible to enter the information manually (Turbotax had limited the purchases to at most 50 entries and gave no option for entering just an average cost basis). I then tried to import the information from Quicken -> unfortunately any attempt to then try and modify the data would corrupt it. How could they mess up such basic features? I understand that tax laws change but basic capital gains entry does not! I sent feedback on 26th January and the issue appears to have been fixed on the 30th January (i.e. Quicken import is no longer getting corrupted for stock/mutual fund sale information). [...] I will probably need to buy TaxCut just to "verify" the TurboTax numbers. If I find TaxCut to be better, I won't be buying TurboTax again.

Dissapointing, 2008-02-06 First let me say I have used TurboTax for at least 6 years and probably will again next year. I stepped up to Premier this year as I unfortunately got involved in a couple of rental projects and thought Premier would help me make decisions on my "business". While there is some guidance, there is more, "you should upgrade to TT Home & Business" for I don't know some $3X.XX dollars more. I also have a bone to pick with TT about my daughters 2007 return. She worked 6 mos. in Alaska this year and had 2 states to tie in with her Fed return. Well 1 Free state download is all that is included and it's $39.00 to download another state. I don't think so, so fair enuf, we thought we'd just get the necessary state forms and make the changes on the lines in TT for her state return. No can do. You cannot access the state forms in TT and change any of the #'s and attach your own forms. You can only change information through the interview process and they don't allow you to input information for another state or form unless you buy the other state product from TT and allow them to do it for you. Yeah right I'd have over $125.00 into TT if I did it their way. It's back to TT basic for me next year.
Update 2/20/2008.... After finishing my daughters taxes a couple of days ago, manually for the state, and checking for updates we sent it off to the IRS. OK. Started to work on my son's return tonight, checked for updates and surprise 5 NEW UPDATES!!!! Say What? I've already filed the other return. What do I have to do wait till April 15th to file? Every year it is something new with TT.

Find something else, 2008-01-28 Please read the UPDATE following the initial review.
1/28/08: I'm using Turbo Tax "Premiere". Or rather I'm trying to use it. I figure they need to make it different year to year to justify the price, but they royally blew it this time.
Tabbing from one field to the next takes at least 30 seconds. This is even when entering an address. I even unplugged my internet connection as I thought Intuit was contacting the IRS or the CIA with every character I typed.
Trying to enter within the 30 second gap caused either the product or Vista to state that TurboTax was not responding only to wake up some time thereafter. I'm guessing it's the product.
You don't know if the product has accepted your selection. Maybe, maybe not.
I've used TT for years, gladly, but unless TurboTax (Intuit) comes out SOON with significant performance enhancements, I will not come back next year.
It is truly a painful experience.
UPDATE 1/31/08: PLEASE READ
In my previous review, I stated that the performance of TurboTax Premier 2007 left a great deal to be desired, to say the least. Since then, I have discovered that the root cause for the exceptionally poor performance was actually, once again, Microsoft. The Machine Debug Manager, or MDM service, was running and is known to cause extremely poor performance. It is some kind of debugger for Visual Studio, and runs automatically. I went into the Task Manager, stopped the service, and disabled it. Now, Turbo Tax performs as it always did. I'd give it 4 stars, not 5, I'm still using it and haven't filed yet, and it still may tank (but I doubt it now).
Bill and Vista strike again.
Taxes, 2008-01-26 I have been using this for a few years, and it is good, but one tax profiler such as this does not fit every user. Some of the explanations need greater detail- which you can go to and retrieve at the IRS site.

Easy to Use. Complete. Professional., 2008-01-26 TURBOTAX is everything it is advertised to be.
I started using TurboTax in 2002 and have used it every year since. As my tax situation has grown more complicated with investments and a business, it has more than met my needs. It is easy-to-use, complete, and hassle-free.
I take comfort in knowing that it doesn't overlook deductions, credits, or expenses. Once I have gone through the interview process (which is ridiculously simple), I know I have touched all the bases.
Its Deductible is so good I bought it outright a couple of years ago. For charitable donations of clothes, mileage, and money it is excellent. To have a software package that properly values a short sleeve silk women's blouse in good condition is worth its weight in gold.
TurboTax has saved me money on taxes and given me peace of mind.
