Good PSU for single video card, 2008-09-29 Due to an imminent upgrade of my video card, I needed to buy a new PSU that had at least one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express power connector. My search criteria was simple: 1. Had to be NVIDIA compatible. 2. The PSU should be in the 700W - 850W range. 3. The PCIe connectors had to be mechanically compatible with NVIDIA 9800 GX2 card without any adapter. I went to NVIDIA 9800GX2 Compatible Power Supply Web page and looked for models that fit into my requirement.
I found several PSU units that fit nicely into my requirement list. I settled with a Cooler Master 750W Real Power Pro. It had a good price, it was 9800GX2 NVIDIA approved, did not have to use any adapter to plug into my card and it had 750W of power.
This PSU is intended to be used on recent hardware as it has a 24 pin main ATX power connector, pins 21-24 cannot be removed and a 24 to 20 pin converter is not included. It accepts voltages from 110 to 230 VAC. No selection switch needed. At the bottom is has a large 120mm quiet fan that blows air into the PSU.
I'm very happy with this purchase, it was a good deal, delivered quickly and when I installed it into my system, everything just worked. I would recommend this PSU to anyone interested in using a single slot high end video card.
