Paint Shop Pro X2, 2008-10-08 Easy to install, not that easy to use. I had to buy a book for almost as much as the software cost. After 3 weeks, I'm still learning.
No joy for Nikon users... RAW does not work..., 2008-09-26 Surprise, surprise! The newest version of Paint Shop Pro (PSP) X2, Ultimate version supports Nikon's raw file format for the D300... on paper. I upgraded from the old version because none of the newer Nikon raw file formats were supported (including Canon 14-bit raw).
To my surprise the wording "supported formats" must mean something different to the Corel folks. With plenty of processing power (HP Media Center) and plenty of memory (3GB), it was like watching computer paint dry, and most of the time the rendering routines in the Ultimate version just quit... not responding, software crash.
I am not writing this review to get my money back, or give the Corel folks a hard time. Rather as a warning to Nikon folks like me... DO NOT BUY PSP X2 for its raw file format capability... it does not work.
Note: I suspect the new Canon raw formats don't work any better.
Paint Shop Pro Photo, 2008-09-24 Does a lot of things but is not user friendly. Help doesn't actually help much and you are left to trial and error as to how to use the functions ie; change background. it is probably a very good program and after I finally learn to use it ( a couple of years) I will let you know.
Have gone back to PSPX, 2008-09-14 I've used PSP since the good old days of Jasc (V4) and upgraded with each new release to PSPX - missed X1 and decided to go to X2 mainly because it offered RAW support and HDR. I was disappointed that RAW support isn't available for my camera - not a rarity an Olympus DSLR, and the HDR conversion is very poor. That would have been OK if everything else had worked but it's disgraceful that Corel can sell a product as bad as this. It is so-o-o-o slow. The help files were an illegible mess on-screen, sometimes my plug-ins were available - sometimes they weren't. The new crop tool is a JOKE, there's no ability to move/copy files within the program, deleting a file took forever, rotating multiple files resulted in the program crashing, the screen would go blank for no reason, the program froze so often I thought it had hyperthermia, meaning losing work and having to restart ... I could go on. And as for 'help' - I have another four-letter word that applies to Corel customer 'support' and it doesn't start with 'h'.
If you're thinking of 'upgrading', don't bother. It may look pretty, but it's an ugly beast - stick with PSPX and avoid the risk of a nervous breakdown

Stick with Paintshop pro 9 if you can get it, 2008-09-10 This version offers little more than version 9 and is far more memory intensive. I Bought this directly from Corel and have been unable to even activate it as it just hangs. The help is hopeless and I have removed this from my PC and am looking to get a refund.
As I say in the header get Corel Paint Shop Pro 9 [OLD VERSION] which was one of the later ones before Corel ruined it
