Does the job., 2008-08-17 So far I'm pleased with this product. It's non intrusive to the operating system and doesn't slow down the machine at all. It has done a good job of blocking what needs to be blocked and cleaning up the drives.
Product that gets the job done., 2008-08-04 Use the internet to save money. I found this and throught it was a hell of a deal until I finished the install and it told me I was covered for 2 years instead of one (WOW!)...Cake with Icing! I have had many issues with McAfee & Norton but this product works on everything I use.

Good at first, horrible over time, 2008-08-03 I installed this product on three different machines (all running WinXP), two desktops and one laptop. The laptop stopped spinning down the disk and my battery life dropped significantly. After a month of discussions with support, I finally gave up and suffered with the reduced battery life. On the desktops, it worked pretty well until one day my wife's computer would go 100% CPU on boot -- after a lot of pain, we finally found it was the bitdefender svchosts.ext process. I uninstalled it and the problem immediately went away... Sure enough, a few weeks later, the same thing happened to my desktop. Oddly enough, it took the laptop several months before the svchosts.exe problem happening, but eventually it did. I have given up trying to make this product work and moved to a different solution... Thank goodness it was cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.
BitDefender Antivirus 2008, 2008-07-29 Signed on to this antivirus software for the 30 day free trial.
Bought this before the 30 day trial was up. when I recieved the software from Amazon all I had to do was enter the key from the CD sleeve and the software kept working. No mus No fuss. I am using it on 3 computers. A Dell Laptop with Home XP, a Dell Desktop with Home XP and and old Mutt (many different parts from old computers) with Windows 2000 and I have had NO problems so I cannot comment on thier customer service.
$30.00 for 2 years for 3 computers and No problems for approx 2 months. No Brainer.
The best antivirus solution..., 2008-07-28 For the vast majority of computer users, anti-virus programs are a necessary evil. So if you need one, why not go with the best? What I like about Bitdefender is that they consistently rate in the top two as far as effectiveness at catching known and unknown threats (Norton and McAfee generally rate between #5-8). And to top it off, their software is very easy on system resources. If you are running Norton or McAfee and you switch to Bitdefender, you will notice a nice speed increase. I also want to run an anti-virus program that basically never needs my attention or pops anything up (unless I'm getting/running a virus) and once properly configured, Bitdefender does that. The configuration options are many, and may confuse novice users, so read the electronic documentation. Best of all, the price is very reasonable.
On the other hand, Bitdefender's support structure is bad. If you'll need to contact a human for support, then look elsewhere. They are based out of Eastern Europe (Romania). When the company I work for was looking for enterprise anti-virus solutions, we contacted them in every way possible for some information, and never heard back. Fortunately I've never NEEDED to contact them myself. There are other support options available like a message board at their website (all volunteer) and Google.
So it's really a tradeoff of sorts - you get the best (and frankly, the most inexpensive) anti-virus solution out there, but the worst human-to-human support. I strongly suggest you run the free 30-day trial of this program on your computer before deciding to buy. The trial is fully functional and available for download from the Bitdefender website.
