Watch out for hidden fees!, 2008-04-07
I've been a QuickBooks user since 2003. Every year I upgraded to the latest version because it included a free download of the tax tables, and the downloaded table would then function until February of the following year.

Unfortunately Intuit, the manufacturer of QB, decided to disable this feature in QB 2008! 30 days after installing it, the software just stopped calculating my payroll taxes. This could not have happened at a worse time as I was about to print out paychecks for my 4 employees (try explaining to your employees why you couldn't print out their paychecks because the software you depend on just decided to disable this feature).

I called QB support, and they confirmed my suspicion: The software will no longer calculate your payroll taxes without a "payroll subscription". And how much is that going to cost me? The answer was $250 minimum (for the Basic Payroll and 4 employees)!

Too bad that Intuit is so greedy that it wants to force its users to buy features that were included in previous versions of the software. To me, this is the same as raising the software price from $170 to $420, but instead of telling you that straight out, they make you discover it 30 days after installation by disabling the payroll calculation feature!

Luckily, the software comes with 60-day money back guarantee. Even though the return is costing me $12 in shipping fees, I am returning this product today. I hope for salvation from the Intuit greed via the new Microsoft Accounting product, which I'll be checking out soon.

    Quickbooks Pro 2008, 2008-04-07
Like the product and have used it for years. My only gripe is the forced purchase of new software every few years and seperate payroll software. Quickbooks was just as good in the '90's for a lot less!

    No More Boxes, 2008-04-07
I use to keep all my important business papers in a box. When I needed to find an invoice I had to go on a treasure hunt. Since I purchased QuickBooks Pro my treasure hunting days are over. All I have to do is click a button and whatever I'm looking for comes before me in seconds.

    Lawn Care Solution!, 2008-04-07
Great for running a produce stand, and lawn and landscape company. It does it all!

This was purchased as an update for my prior program, QB2002, which seems straightforward enough a step. That is, until you realize the requirements of the software as to hardware updates!!! Had to buy a new computer to fulfill and use the program (speed, memory, and operating system required). Had I known that before I bought it, I would have been satisfied with the 2002 version. In addition, I could not draw my 2002-generated data from 2006 and 2007 into it; I had to find a 2005 version (minimum required) to step it across. In other words, pull the data into the 2005 version, save it out, and then pull it into the 2008 version of QuickBooks Pro.
Amazon is to be congratulated for offering it at a more manageable price, and with the addition of a coupon for $20. and free shipping, it barely came into the reasonable range. The MSRP is why update didn't occur since 2002. I probably will wait another 5 years before considering another update, if then.
The program is efficient, if daunting for innumerate purchasers. It does not have the ease of the program with which I replaced it in 2002, but then, I now have an ex-accountant, as well as "QuickBooks for Dummies".
