A must for Mac owner who must work with other OSes, 2007-12-28 A very inexpensive add-on to Mac OS that enable users who must also live with other OSes. The only issue I had was that the product didn't warn me about the need to disconnect/reconnect the Mac's optical disk as one move from one OS to the next. It's a limitation that was not obvious and it cause unnecessary concerns to a first time user.
Excellent Virtualization Product!, 2007-12-27 I use VMware ESX at work (on Windows servers), and wanted to have a similar experience at home on my iMac. The product installed perfectly, no hassles, and I was able to immediately install both a Windows XP workload and an Ubuntu workload within just a few minutes. Only problem I ran into was installation of the VMware tools on Ubuntu (VM provides both an RPM package and a tar file, but no installation instructions for Ubuntu -- you don't need to install the tools in order to use Fusion for hosting Ubuntu, it just makes the integration a little better).
So far, so good, and excellent performance. Strongly recommended!

Flawless, 2007-12-26 I first looked at buying Parallels. After reading the reviews I decided to go with Fusion. What a pleasant surprise. I asked for this as a present. I dreaded installing it. You always wonder how smooth things will go. What I hate more than anything else is reading instructions on how to install things. Now don't get me wrong, you will have to set aside a couple of hours to install this, but the computer is doing all the work not me. I have a MacBook 2.2Ghz OS 10.5. I also have 4GB of RAM installed. I allocated 1GB to Window's XP. I threw in the disk and hit install. After it's all in, there is an update to VM Fusion 1.1 That's a 172MB download. That takes awhile. Again it's doing all the work, not me. Installation of Window's XP was also easy and effortless. Next step it was all running and running well. I have to run a program that interfaces with my company's 45 year old computer system. Now let me tell you that the people with Window's computers have a 50% failure rate of trying to use this program to access our company's computer. This program ran flawlessly on my computer. It operates fast and perfectly. One more thing, shutting down Windows and quitting VM then restarting is very fast. It takes about 20 seconds to boot up from a complete shutdown. I couldn't be more happy.
VMware Fusion, 2007-12-26 What a great application! Finally Mac and Windows programs work easy together without restarting (e.g. Bootcamp) Works even without an extra partition. Good buy.

Easy installation, Slows down your system, 2007-12-25 I have a MacBook Pro bought in the summer of 2006. Installation of Fusion was straightforward and exactly like any other installation on a Mac. Installing Windows XP Pro on the virtual machine was also very simple. It was actually easier than installing XP on a PC. I have only been using it for a couple of days but there are a few major issues I have:
1) McAfee Antivirus Plus could not be installed on the Windows virtual machine. I have an installation disk, and it would not work. I ended up downloading free antivirus and rootkit from AVG (by Grisoft). 2) Running the virtual machine significantly slows down your computer, both the Mac and the Windows systems. 3) I installed Windows on my Mac because there are several applications that just work better on Windows than on the Mac. One of those is Palm Desktop. The other is PowerPoint. Powerpoint files crash my Mac everytime I try to open them. Switching to the Windows machine is annoying everytime I want to use the apps I have on there. It's more efficient to work on either one OS or the other.
If you must have a Mac with Windows, Fusion accomplishes that task with easy installation and access. However, it is not an efficient process and slows everything down. In hindsight, I am not sure that I will be using the Windows machine very often.
