Nightmare Upgrade, 2008-05-05 I used the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 product for one year and it worked well - no issues and I'd give it 5 stars. This product maintained a good balance between security and system performance, as well as providing good feedback and control mechanisms one would expect from a mature antivirus program. I have used several antivirus products from Semantic, McAfee, and Trend Micro -- all on this same PC over the past 5 years and the Kaspersky 6.0 AntiVirus product was a clear winner from all of those products.
However, my problems with the Kaspersky Anti-Virus product started when I tried to renew my license after it expired. Following Kaspersky's license renewal/upgrade instructions on their website left me with a more expensive version of their product line (Internet Security) and removed all of my existing licensing information so I could not 'upgrade' and had to purchase a new license instead.
The renewal instructions suggest upgrading to their 7.0 product (for free), but this requires uninstalling the 6.0 version. An uninstall feature found in the 6.0 product was supposed to maintain my purchased license information so I could easily upgrade to the new version. This feature does not work and will erase all license information during the uninstall.
When I proceeded to install the 7.0 AntiVirus product, the link from the renewal website installed a more expensive version of the Internet Security product instead. I verified this explict link downloads the wrong version of the software and I pointed this out to the company.
So now I had a more expensive product on my computer and no proof of purchase from my 6.0 product. The next step Kaspersky recommends in this situation (after searching their website) is to email them to retain your license information. It took them over a week to respond and they asked for the original email receipt they sent when I purchased the product over a year ago. If I had this email receipt I wouldn't need to email them for the my license.
I can draw one of two conclusions from this poor upgrade experience: 1) Kaspersky is an incompetent company, 2) Kaspersky is a dishonest company and tries to force their customers into purchasing a much more expensive product. Either way, I no longer trust this company with protecting my computer.
About me: I'm a software engineer with 15+ years experience and I have created, used, purchased, renewed, installed and uninstalled countless software products.

Great Program, 2008-05-04 I cannot understand why so many people had problems either installing or using this program. I have used Norton Anti-virus and Internet Security and both programs slowed down my computer (1.5GB of RAM and 2.4GHz Processor). I have used McAfee and CA antivirus. People must realize that if you are using an old system (low memory, slow processor) you may have some difficulties using this product. This program is easy to install and I must agree that after installing, you will see several program. This program like all program has a training mode. The alerts warns you that a program is attempting to access the internet and all you have to do is select "allow or "Deny". After doing this the first you will not have to do this again for the program attempting access the internet. To get the best preformance I would recommend upgrading your computer to 1GB of RAM and have at least a P4 Processor. Excellent Program, look forward to version 8.

awesome program. A+, 2008-05-03 I have a little experience with other programs like norton and panda, and neither of those come near to being as good as kaspersky.
What I love about kaspersky. doesn't slow down my pc. i'm running a p4 3.4ghz, 1gb, xp. Running kaspersky only brought up the used memory from ~160mb to ~180mb. Only a 20 mb increase. I've seen norton and panda add over 100 and they constantly bother you with rediculous warnings. Kaspersky always has updates, scans my hardrive with 50g of data fairly quick.
Ever since i've installed kaspersky my pc has been running smoother; a heck of a lot fewer blue screen errors and other types of errors. Its awesome a weeding out those problems.

Good product, no install problems, 2008-05-02 I downloaded the free trial version before I bought it. The product installed easily, and had no problems with a new Vista basic OS. The only problem I encountered was with the Kaspersky website when I tried to buy it from there. The anti-virus program runs smoothly and unobtrusively in the background (no torturous slowdowns, like with Norton).

Kaspersky a facile replacement for Norton, 2008-04-19 Simple to install, easily configured, and not as intrusive as Norton Internet Security. Kaspersky's hard disk scan is purported to check only those files that have changed since the last scan; it certainly runs much faster than Norton's scan, and does so without splashing annoying dialog boxes in the middle of the screen.
