    Good program just a couple of minor gripes., 2008-05-25
    I'm not sure why Trend Micro gets so many bad reviews, it is by far the best security program I've had on my computer. I had Norton 360 and then Mcafee before this and here's what they showed after a scan-
    360 said I had no security issues on the computer.
    Mcafee(total protection) said I had 6.
    I tried Trend Micro and low and behold-67! All spyware.
    How could the other two not pick these up?? I immediately switched to pro and will not go to another program.
    Pros-easy to install and pretty quick about doing it. 2. As mentioned before picks up things the others aren't. 3. Doesn't bombard you with constant messages(pop-ups and such)
    Cons-a little slow at scanning, although that's a minor nuisance considering what it picks up. And the other would be seems that every other update it has to revert back because it says "problem with latest update" but at least it doesn't interfere with operating your computer.
    All and all a good product, much better than the other 2 I tried!

    Installation problems - upgrading from 2007 was impossible, 2008-05-23
    I would give it three stars for overall performance. One star is removed for the installation hassles. The bullet points:

    BAD
    * Slows down the system considerably;
    * The interface is not very intuitive;
    * On opening, it had a false positive (flagged perfectly innocent software WGA Removal as a Trojan). Curiously, the 2007 version had no such a problem (it scanned the system a few hours earlier);
    * It started working unscheduled during a PowerPoint presentation (with no Internet connection).

    GOOD
    * Fewer crashes than McAfee and other security software (2007 version);
    * Pretty comprehensive;
    * Found four spyware bits that the 2007 didn't;
    * Can be installed on three machines.

    INSTALLATION:
    * I tried to upgrade the 2007 version with this one (i.e., bought on a disc at Amazon). What happened: after the installation, I was asked to provide my email address used for purchasing the OLD version (?!) - since I am using dynamic addresses for internet purchases, it took me a long while to find it.
    * After the installation, it turned out that there is no way to input the new serial number - no such option! The only solution was to uninstall it, and then install again;
    * Many modules such as the System Tuner had to be updated. All those updates took a while since they had to be initialized manually. There were a few restarts involved and inconsistent requests from different modules.

    BOTTOM LINE: If you have the 2007 or older version, first uninstall it and then install the new one. Do not try to uninstall the old version with the help of the 2008 one. It seems that the company tries to force you into buying the more expensive download version not by making it a less expensive option but by creating hassles with non-download upgrades.

    watch out, 2008-04-29
    Just installed this on a fresh clean dell vostro 200 that was running XP like a top. It practically killed it. Could not longer switch users or bring up programs in the uninstall software list. Had to use the trend micro uninstall to get the machine back. Also caused lots of address errors in things like, task manager. Gosh, this was a great product, what did they do to it? Very disappointed.

    great security software but auto-update needs to be fixed , 2008-04-23
    I've been using Trend Micro for the past few years on three computers and was quite happy with it. The software is quite capable of identifying and dealing with spyware and viruses. Plus, it runs much faster than Norton. So when it was time to upgrade, I didn't think twice about buying the 2008 version, particularly because it has new security features like transaction protector and keystroke encryption. Installation was fine BUT within the first month of use, I couldn't run auto-update and kept receiving the error message "Unable to update your protection. Make sure your Internet connection works and try again". The message appeared although the net connection was fine. Auto-update worked after I re-installed the software, then the problem happened again. Another negative: customer service in North America is rubbish (the link to their page doesn't work and no one answers the phone). I found that other users had the same problem with auto-update and customer service. Good thing Trend Micro UK posted the patch on their website (if anyone has the same problem, try the steps outlined here: http://support.antivirus.co.uk/trendmicro/kbresolution.jsp?hmid=43430&appId=11). I give this product 4 stars for great net/pc security and 2 stars for the hassle with customer service and the problem with auto-update (so overall, 3 stars).
