 Finally Useful Protection, 2008-07-01
McAfee Total Protection is the easy it program to use to keep your computer safe from viruses and a few more things. It checks every website before you can access it. If there is some kind of suspicious activity, it will not allow you to proceed. However, you have the options of turning off the protection, so that you can go ahead to the site.
I've had no problem with this program whatsoever, and this is coming from a person who is not very computer savvy. But you don't have to be computer savvy to realize that the computer is running as it should and not taking forever to navigate different sites.
The other thing really great about this program is the fact you are allowed to protect three computers with the one cd.
I recommend McAfee Total Protection 2008 to everyone who frequents the internet or even a person who simply receives plenty of emails. It will protect your computer from SPAM and viruses coming through your various email contacts.

There are 12 main components to the product. These include software to help stop viruses, hackers, spyware and junk email. System administration tools include maintenance, file backup and restoration as well as tools for network configuration, file sharing and printing. Using an Internet connection, the software is continuously refreshed with updates so that you are protected from the latest threats.
I especially like the Site Advisor Plus feature which allows you to add a button to your browser's toolbar. When visiting a website, you can easily obtain a detailed status report of the site. The report includes an analysis of download tests for adware, spyware and other potential troublesome software; the number of emails you might expect to receive per month if you opt-in to a mail list; annoyances such as excessive use of popups; a schematic displaying the online affiliations of the site; and reviewer comments about the site. This nifty tool is immensely valuable when visiting a website for the first time and deciding how you might want to interact with the site, if at all.
The installation process was easy using a PC running MS Vista. I have since used McAfee to automate the process of backing up files to an external drive; the security updates are downloading automatically; and I frequently tuen to the Site Advisor tool for insight. In my opinion, the availability of these essential services in an easy-to-use package can save any home computer user the time and hassle of system maintenance, and consequently improve the home PC ownership experience.
I highly recommend this essential product to everyone.

I installed this on my laptop a few days ago and so far have been very pleased with the program. I haven't used McAfee products in the past, so this is great.
I'm not technical, so will let someone else review that side, I just know it does what I want it to do.

I have used this product on another computer and it has been working perfectly. Easy to use. However if your computer has other anti-virus protection you'll have to remove them for it to work effectively.
Easy to install for a novice, 2008-06-26
I'm just a novice user - mostly shopping, surfing, and research, and I found McAfee Total Protection to be relatively quick and easy to install onto my laptop. It is annoying to have to sign up for auto renewal - seems like every program on my laptop is that way, but overall I am pretty impressed with the package and shared it with my mom. Norton came standard on my computer, but I actually prefer McAfee and would recommend it friends.
