Create your civilization then take over all others - too fun, 2008-08-01
Ok, I got to say that I was afraid of installing this game on my intel macbook I got back in May. I got the mid range model because I wanted something portable for class. Anyway, when I heard that Civilization IV wouldn't work on it because of the integrated graphics card, I was heart broken. I've loved this game for years since I first played Civilization II on my old PC. It made me hold back on my purchase for a while.

I gave in and I now LOVE my mac, way better than any PC I've had. Even though I wasn't supposed to, I got Civ IV and installed it at my own peril. I was shocked! The game worked flawlessly. It worked better on my mac than on my old gaming laptop. I really hope Apple improves the graphics chips on future macs, but the game worked perfectly.

So if you've got a recent macbook that isn't "compatible," give it a try. If you're a fan of the series you'll be relieved and enjoy hours of fun.

    Could not install it., 2008-07-10
As many of the other reviews have stated your system must meet the minimum requirements. My system did not meet minimum requirements and I could not get it to install. Do not waste your time if your system dose not meet those minimum system requirements.

Conquer the world...or at least try, 2008-07-06
This is the most recent incarnation of the popular CIVILIZATION game. For those not familiar with it's predessors the object is to either conquer the world by either military force, cultural superiority, diplomataic means or winning the space race. The player can either play as an individual against the computer or against other human players or as part of a team. The player dons the persona of one of several world leaders (Washington, Bismark, Victoria, Montezuma etc) and beginning the game from several different eras ranging from ancient through modern. There are various degrees of difficulty ranging from the chieftain, (the easiest) to diety, (nearly impossible). The player has the option of customizing the game, choosing various starting conditions for land masses, sea level and climate and other factors as well as a choice of several preset scenarios taken from historical situations.

The numerous options give the player almost limitless playing options making this a game that can literally keep a player occupied for years. A game can range from a few minutes to hours depending on the options selected. The challenges can progress as the players skill level increases.

I have played this game, in a couple of different versions for years and for many more hours than I would care to admit and still have not come even close to exhausting it's full potential, or becoming bored. When it ceases to be challenging I alter a parameater or two and it is a whole different set of challenges.

There are a few problems though. Although I am playing on a new Mac laptop, with plenty of memory the game slows and hangs up fairly often, requiring a 'save' exiting the game and re-entering - a process that takes 5 to 10 minutes. Each time the game is entered the entire opening sequence is played and while it is an interesting, well animated piece after a few dozen viewings it becomes a bit annoying. Also some of the charactitures of the non Eurpean/American make this WASP a bit uncomfortable.

Overall this is one of the best computer games I have played. The flexibility allows those into shoot'em up games to wage war to their hearts' content as well as those who do not to permanently declare peace and focus on other challenges.

The Fun Keeps going to a specific point, 2008-07-02
Its fixed many of its problems and is much better than the last generation of the game. It is a lot of fun but it lacks detail in graphics. Sorry for such a short reveiw....Short but sweet.

Civ IV for iMac -- It Rocks!, 2008-05-13
I had Civ IV for PC but when I made the leap and bought an iMac, I had to get a Mac-compatible version of the game. I had thought the game, with its graphics, diplomacy and warfare options, was pretty cool then. The Mac version blows the PC version away! Definitely more intense graphics, great sound, and all the action I remembered. Worth the price to have this for the Mac.
