Beware the warranty and service issues, 2003-01-20 SONY has a default 90 day warranty. If you register online within 90 days(sugggest you use a spam attracting email address!) the warranty period is extended to 1 year. The web site service descriptions suggest that SONY isn't very strong in the service department, but we've not called. We've twice experienced a complete reset with total data loss on this device. Once might have been due to the battery cover coming loose. Watch that battery cover. Several users have commented that the text is very fine and hard to read. A Japanese developer has generously provided a fix for the world, the resulting fonts are quite readable. (ThinFontFix
This is the Worst -- buy a Palm, 2003-01-15 The screen is horrible. There is no contrast. It is basically gray. Save yourself the frustration of getting a brand new PDA and having to call customer support within 30 minutes because you can't read half the applications. Don't listen to the positive reviews as I did. Check out the Palms. And run, don't walk away from this product.

good with reservations, 2003-01-07 I bought this for my wife who is a first time PDA user. I use an older handspring model compared to which this unit is sleek and well designed. The font is hard to read under normal light which dissapointed me. The jog dial is really userful and handy. The photo & video applications seem useful for the increased resolution. Over all, a ok buy.

Beats the Palm, 2003-01-01 After Palm had me "trade up" from a Palm III that worked great for 3+ years to a m125, and after having 2 "replacement" m125s (all 3 had screen failure) and then Palm basically abandoning me (I was getting to the rude side by that time, offering to "trade up", again, to get a different and more expensive model on the specific condition that it actually worked - I got no response)it was great to get this SONY that used the Palm OS system but has a great screen. I do agree that the screen is a bit hard to read, moreso than the Palm, but that is little to put up with to get something that works this well. I bought two. (I also agree that the more expensive models of SONY may be worth it - mainly to get color and simply resolve the difficulty in reading the screen issue - but my use - calender and phone book - do not justify the move up. This one hits the spot at a cost 1/3 below the m125 junker.

Don't believe what you read...., 2002-12-21 The CLIE is an excellent value, especially before the beginner. I was nervous purchasing this because of the negative feedback, but the price was too right to pass up. Yes, the font is terrible, BUT there is a program (thin font fix) widely available for free on the Web. The font is more-than-sufficient with that program. I have had no problems with resets or anything else for that matter. I find the CLIE very user friendly, the battery lasts long (over two weeks of my normal use - mostly scheduling - - with nearly 80% battery life left) and it has all the programs and space that I'll need.
