Calm and melodic, 1998-06-24 This CD is said to be the finest piece of work ever made in the history of Rock/Pop. I can understand why. The ballads here are soft and very melodic. The voice of Michael Stipe is incredible. Before you go to sleep you can put this CD on.

R.E.M. Greatest CD ever, 1998-06-24 This is by far R.E.M.'s greatest CD. Every song is worth listening to.

Way too consumable, baby., 1998-06-16 I know R.E.M. tries to be "alternative", at the very edge of the artistic knife, but this CD is just way too good. Great tunes alloyed with fantastic and dreamy lyrics from seventies' experiences. My personal favorites are "Man on (in?) the Moon, Night Swimming--well, the last three tracks on the disc. Soulful, well-done, orignial, full of angst.

CLASSIC, 1998-05-19 The best REM album ever? I think so. Often overlooked in their catalog of cd's, but this disc, as well as, 'Radio Free Europe" will stand out as the best music REM has ever made. 'Automatic for the People" is the softest and most acoustical of their work, yet does not fail to deliver all of what you expect from REM. Stipe's vocals have never sounded better.
