The Host (a MUST read book), 2008-08-28
I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book!!! I am a humungous fan of the twilight series. When I found out about this book (i read twilight this june) I was SO exciteded to read another one of Stephanie Meyer's books. The Host was AMAZING. I loved the science fiction and Wanda's background. I also loved the authors development of the characters, she really made me experience what Wanda was going through... A certain part of the ending was a little more real than you would expect out of most authors... All in all The Host was a great book... Even better than Twilight.
P.S. Am a 12, though i am said to be a very mature 12 year-old... When I bought this book the cash register looked at me and asked me 'do your parents know you r buying this book beacause it isn't a teen book'. Obviously the the cashier hadn't read the book because the only reason I think it was put into the adult section was because it has a little more depth. It is TOTALLY appropriate. There is just detailed kissing, but not as detailed as the kisses in the Twilight Saga.
P.P.S. For those who have written other reviews I don't understand how you can naturally call Wanda Wanderer...

Impatiently Waiting for a Sequel!!!, 2008-08-27
I had my doubts about this book. I am a huge fan of the Twilight series! I decided to give it and try and was thoroughly impressed. I love how she developed the relationship between Melanie and Wanda. And the conflicting relationship with Ian and Jared.

Upon finishing this book, I truly hope that she continues this story!

    Interesting idea. Terrible execution, 2008-08-26
Ms. Meyer has an interesting concept here, one that could have allowed her to examine the very nature of being human, of love, and of the relationship between mind and body (as Kazuo Ishiguro did so brilliantly in "Never let me go."). Unfortunately, she does not possess the writing ability to pull that off. Her narrative is sprawled and often meanders for pages on end for no apparent reason. The novel (at 600 pages) could have been 300 pages shorter. Worst of all, is Ms. Meyer's limited vocabulary and expression. Reading the book, I kept thinking of a drinking game where one would have to drink every time a character "hissed," "shuddered," "trembled," or somebody's stomach "growled." I think that you'd get drunk by page 5. The plot never quite arcs and the conclusion is too sweet for its own good. This could have been an amazing novel. In the end, it was simply a mediocre attempt at writing.

    BREATHTAKING....., 2008-08-25
I am NOT AT ALL a "Sci-Fi" fan----but this wonderful book is so much more than a mere "Sci-Fi" tag can sum up.....beautifully written, exceptional characterization--not to mention, romance;suspence; and an "edge-of-your-seat" narration, that at times, left me absolutely breathless.....I LOVED the character "Wanderer," --not to mention all of the other colorful characters in this incredible story...What a talent Stephanie Meyer is---I can not rate this book highly enough!!!

    It's no Twilight, 2008-08-25
This book was a real disappointment. It would have been a lot better if about 200 pages were cut out. I agree with some other reviewers in that I would have put the book down after about 100 pages if it were not for the author herself. The book was ok, just really, really slow. I'm glad I got it from the library instead of paying full price for the book. If there is a sequel, I doubt I'll read it. The book is slow, some of the characters are so like Twilight characters you'd have to be blind not to notice the similarities. But unlike the Twilight characters, I found it hard to identify with these people. No one really won my favor. And the name Wanda!? That was hard to read with a straight face. (no offense to anyone named Wanda) This book was in the YA section of my library, and I plan on telling them it is an adult book. I don't think YA have the patience to slug through this. "Science fiction for people who don't like science fiction"--wasn't Twilight "Vampires for people who don't like vampires"? Sorry Stephenie, I'm a huge TW fan, but you need to get some new catch phrases.
