Customer Reviews:
fun, but probably not for historical buffs, 2008-12-31 This game resembles a very complex version of axis and allies. Historical buffs may find quibbles with this game because all possible scenarios that could of happened during world war 2 (like spain or turkey joining the axis powers) are not possible and also the fact that this game starts after the invasion of poland. Also the way the battles happened during world war 2 and how units were placed as compared to what happened historically does not match. I found the research system to be a bit unnecessary and made the game more complex than it needed to be. Another issue I have the game is that it really tries hard to hem you into what you can realistically do. France is way too easy to conquer for the axis, and Britain is near impossible to take. While this does follow historically what happened, the way they make it hard, imo, is not historically accurate (they do it by the way the territories are designed and range rules, and interdiction rules). Still, if you like axis and allies, then you'll probably like this game a lot. It is not for the serious WWII wargamer who is concerned with other aspects, such as diplomacy, yet at the same time, it is not simple enough to be for the casual wargamer either (the manual is very long). Most wargamers do not fall in either category, which is probably okay for this game. The only game that comes close for historical buffs I think would be a non computer game ("A world at war" by GMT games). Assuming you can stomach the cost of the game, as well as the time and space it takes to learn the game.
