Product Description:

Julia Stiles (MONA LISA SMILE) and Academy Award(R) winner Shirley MacLaine (1983 Best Actress, TERMS OF ENDEARMENT) star in CAROLINA, the endearing romantic comedy about a young woman (Stiles) trying to escape the eccentric ways of her wacky Southern family and meet the man of her dreams -- a nice, normal available guy. Finding him appears easier said than done until she meets a handsome and debonair Englishman. Will Carolina's dream turn into a nightmare when she introduces her perfect guy to her less-than-perfect family? And what will her best friend Albert have to say? As funny and charming as SWEET HOME ALABAMA, this Southern belle is sure to sweep you off your ever-loving feet.

Funny movie, 2008-12-18
It's a funny movie and a cute romcom. Randy Quaid is hilarious as the father. He deserves an Oscar. Every scene he's in makes me laugh. He's a hoot. Julia Stiles was fine too. And Shirley McLaine was wonderful as the Grandmother. She truly nailed the role. Mika Boorem was good. I love the opening scene where the two sisters are fighting and they're about to kill each other with knives and then the older one Carolina goes up to the younger sister Georgia(played by Daveigh Chase) and says, "We're not being raised right." It's true. One fight and the grandmother sends both of the two girls outside with sharp knives and tells them, "I'll hose it down when the killing is over with." They both know better of course and stop. Then the dad pulls up with another baby, a little girl who is motherless just like them. Maine. "Her mother is up in a crazy house somewhere," says Randy Quaid's character right before jumping back into his car and driving away. Carolina takes the baby in her arms and tells her life will be different then theirs. Many years later, Carolina works for a TV show and Georgia is a preagant teen and Maine is a young girl obsessed with the lottery. The grandmother's still alive, still embarassing all three of them and their father is still a drunk. Carolina tries to find the right guy all the while trying to help her two younger sisters. It's funny when they're younger Georgia says to Carolina in a fight, "You're an ugly smart witch. No guy will ever marry you." And Carolina spits back, "You're not a fairy princess. You're a fairy witch." And they both fight because Georgia can't yet drink coffee. When they're older though they both get along and Maine turns out funny too obessed with the lottery and sitting on a rocking horse instead of craving a normal childhood. This movie is funny, cute and sweet. It's about three sisters, a crazy grandmother and their hilarious father.
