Image file type category contains file formats, which do not only store graphic image information (bitmap image file types or vector graphic file types), but also contain all other techniques specific to them such as texts, fonts, geometric transformations etc..

There are hundreds of image file types. The PNG, JPEG, and GIF formats are most often used to display images on the Internet. These graphic formats are listed and briefly described below, separated into the two main families of images: raster and vector.

Different image file formats have the abilities of holding different quantities of colors. Each file format will have a related data to the number of "bits per pixel" that the format is capable of supporting.

Image files are utilized in applications, and these applications were first designated upon traditional printing and drawing technologies, such as typography, cartography, technical drawing, advertising etc. They can connect geometric models(vector graphics), digital images(raster graphics), texts(defined by content, font style and size, color, position, and orientation), mathematical functions and equations.
